WE TRAIN COACHES AND ATHLETES TO COMPETE BIBLICALLY

A Winning Pre-Game Talk

Before the 1995 Fiesta Bowl, Coach Tom Osborne quoted these words from the New Testament.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

While his pre-game talk wasn’t too long, it was powerful! He didn’t use many words, but his players got the point that they needed to play with confidence against the second-ranked Florida Gators. Nebraska beat them 62-24 in one of the most dominant championship games in college football history.

Luke 12 – Four Commands

Before Jesus left His disciples, He gave them four clear commands in Luke 12:1-12 on how to live as disciples.

  1. Beware of living like a hypocrite. (1-3)
  2. Do not fear pain, fear God. (4-7)
  3. Boldly confess Jesus. (8-10)
  4. Do not be distracted by defending yourselves. (11-12)

The Kingdom Coach and Athlete lead their teams by the example of the disciples, following the plan Jesus provided for genuine disciples to live their lives. The antidote to worry, temptation, and distraction is prayer. “Worry about nothing; pray about everything” (see Phil. 4:6).

Bible Memory Verse – I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.” Luke 15:7 LSB
