Being Blessed
While much of the world felt depressed during the 2020 pandemic, one athlete felt blessed and grateful. Here’s an excerpt from Cole Little’s article about Dabo Swinney’s son, William.
“Will Swinney is, as the old adage goes, a chip off the old block. A spitting image of his father, Clemson Football Head Coach Dabo Swinney, the senior wide receiver for the Tigers is named after his dad, whose given name is William, and like him in so many ways. Sure, Will talks like Dabo, smiles like Dabo and has the same naturally cheery disposition as Dabo, but what really ties the two together is their shared outlook on life. ‘Blessed and grateful’ is how Will described it when sharing his thoughts and feelings surrounding his Clemson playing career, ‘I’ve been blessed to have so many great teammates and coaches who have guided me on this journey,’ said No. 22. ‘It’s such a fun thing to be a part of, and Clemson is the most special place there is.’”
Psalm 119 – Obedient Walk
The family resemblance between father and son lies in the Christian faith they share, which serves as a roadmap for happiness and blessing. Psalm 119, the longest chapter in Scripture, is the reliable “road map” for happiness (“blessing”). Nearly every verse in this psalm describes a sure and eternal aspect of God’s Word.
The psalmist declares the sufficiency of God’s Word in the life of the believer who loves and obeys it. He makes it clear that the person who walks according to God’s Word is blessed. The only way to walk in the Word is to read the Bible, study the Bible, interpret the Bible, and apply the Bible. Several popular methods include the HEAR and SOAP methods. HEAR stands for Highlight, Explain, Apply, and Respond. SOAP stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer.
The Kingdom Coach and Athlete read, study, and apply the Word of God to their lives daily. They live the Scripture so that it will transform their lives.
