Plots against NBA coaches are nothing new. Former Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy’s firing was led by star player Dwight Howard in 2012. It was called the “Dwightmare” in Orlando because it led to a few comical moments. When reports came out that Howard went to management to have Van Gundy fired, it led to the infamous press conference between them. As Van Gundy confirmed the plot to fire him, Howard walked over, put his arm around his coach, and denied the story. Not long after the press conference, Van Gundy was fired.

Acts 23 – Sovereign Power

Paul describes the plot to kill him in Acts 23. It’s not so different than the plot to kill Jesus. Paul’s life had already been saved twice with the help of his nephew and a Roman soldier. Paul’s life and the protection of his gospel ministry are themes that run throughout the book of Acts. Nothing was going to stop the gospel from reaching Rome. The power of God can overcome any plot against Paul or us. God knows what He wants to accomplish; nothing can stand in His way.

Paul didn’t seek the easy way but the way that would most honor the Lord. He was even willing to become a prisoner or face death if that would further the gospel’s work. Though Paul was alone, he was not alone. The Lord was with him, so he had nothing to fear.

The Kingdom Coach and Athlete focus on what the Lord wants to accomplish through them and trust Him to overcome any plot against His will. They depend on Him to work out His perfect plan!
