Honor the Lord

In 1997, Neil Reed accused former Indiana University basketball coach Bobby Knight of unfairly treating him and his teammates. During a practice session, Reed made a mistake on the court that led to Knight grabbing him by the neck and forcefully pushing him. Since the incident was captured on film, it was widely viewed as an example of Knight’s coaching style, which led to his firing.
Many of us are motivated to do our best as long as we are rewarded for our efforts. But what happens when we face challenges like working under a less-than-ideal coach, being on a team that settles for mediocrity, or experiencing unjust treatment? In those moments, our willingness to pursue excellence may be tested.
Genesis 37 – Turning Hardships into Opportunities
Joseph’s story serves as an inspiration for those navigating an imperfect world in the Book of Genesis. Despite being wrongly imprisoned in a foreign land, Joseph focused on excelling in his tasks rather than dwelling on his unjust circumstances. He turned his hardships into opportunities for diligence and concentration, and his dedication was rewarded with remarkable achievements. Although there is no guarantee that honoring God and pursuing excellence will result in power and prestige, the Scripture promises that those who work wholeheartedly for the Lord will receive their reward from Him.
The Kingdom Coach and Athlete recognize that the world’s view of winning does not guarantee success. Regardless of the scoreboard result, God calls us to strive for excellence in all we do. They know God’s rewards are more than just worldly results.
