WE TRAIN COACHES AND ATHLETES TO COMPETE BIBLICALLY

Jesus and Children

Tiger Woods was trained by his father, Earl, to become a champion. By eleven months, his smooth golf swing resembled his dad’s! At age 4, he would be dropped off at the golf course at 9 a.m. and picked up at 5 p.m., with pockets full of money he had won from skeptics 10-20 years older! His physical ability was extraordinary. Then Earl subjected him to “mental toughness training” to prepare him for the pressure of major tournaments. Wise parents don’t stop training their children!

Matthew 19 – Jesus Welcomes Children

The Lord had just taught that we must value children, treat them well, and become like them to be saved. From babies to pre-teens (as shown in Mark and Luke), children were brought to Jesus so He could lay His hands on them and pray for them in Matthew 19. Laying on of hands was traditionally a visible way to show love, comfort, and future blessings. The children were as important as the adults and were worthy of Jesus’ time and touch.

The more wealthy, famous, influential, and powerful you are, the less approachable and available you generally become. Jesus had nothing to do with this kind of approachability. He wouldn’t let His disciples act as His personal security guards. He corrected them when children were brought to Him. Children are a great example of those closest to the kingdom of heaven in attitude and action. They approached Jesus with honest neediness that had no hidden agendas or prideful hesitation.

The Kingdom Coach and Athlete show respect to others regardless of their position on the team by making time for them whenever possible.

Bible Memory Verse – “Jesus said to him, ‘If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.’” Matthew 19:21 (LSB)
