Lawsuit Crazy

In 2010, a New York Jets fan, Carl Mayer, filed suit against the New England Patriots. Three years earlier, the division-rival Patriots had secretly videotaped the Jets’ coaches during a game at Giants Stadium in 2007. He sought $185 million in damages on behalf of Jets fans, who he claimed had spent money on rigged tickets to games, according to an AP report. Ultimately, he failed to prove any damages, and the suit was dismissed.
Many lawsuits are more ordinary and less newsworthy than Mayer’s. Still, our society seems to have far too many lawsuits. Sometimes we need skilled professionals to help us navigate complex contracts and severe cases where our rights have been violated. However, most would agree that we have become a lawsuit-crazy society.
1 Corinthians 6 – Reject Worldliness
What we experienced today was also common among the Corinthian believers. They had become slow to abandon many of the sinful influences of secular society, including lawsuits. Paul encouraged them to embrace Christian ethics and reject immoral behavior. He was concerned that the reputation of believers suing one another in secular court would harm their gospel witness. Paul urged the Corinthians to repent of their sins and depend on His grace.
The Kingdom Coach and Athlete understand that their identity is in Christ and live their lives according to Christian ethics. Rather than causing divisions within their team, they teach and practice forgiveness and reconciliation. Love conquers all.
Bible Memory Verse – “Or do you not know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore, glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (LSB)
