WE TRAIN COACHES AND ATHLETES TO COMPETE BIBLICALLY

Uncompromising Faith

Before the 1979 Super Bowl football game, Ronald Reagan, the presidential hopeful, was asked his opinion about the game. When a reporter asked him, “Who do you like in the Super Bowl?” Without hesitation, the former governor of California said, “The Rams.” Then, a light apparently went on in his brain, and he paused and said, “Wait a minute. I’m not running for governor of California anymore. May the best team win.”

Daniel 3-4 – Tested Loyalty

While former President Reagan was probably joking about his loyalties, most of us must admit that circumstances can easily sway us and influence our loyalties, rather than guiding them by internal principles. Our attitudes, decisions, and behaviors are shaped by these two conflicting factors. Daniel 3 tells the story of three Jewish men—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—who refused to compromise their faith in God. These men were committed to their God and would not bow down and worship a false god.

The examples these men set help us examine our faith and see if, when tested, it will bring glory to God. It’s unwavering integrity that declares, “I will stand true to my God, even if it costs me my life.” Many athletes and coaches seek fame. They want recognition. They want promotions. As a result, they compromise their integrity, which damages their testimony for Christ. They need to commit to God, just as these three Jewish men did, ultimately leading to Nebuchadnezzar bowing to the holy God.

The Kingdom Coach and Athlete follow God’s commands regardless of how they feel, the circumstances, or the consequences they face.

Bible Memory Verse – “And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will cause a kingdom to rise up which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be left for another people; it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, but it will itself stand forever.” Daniel 2:44 (LSB)
