Alert For His Coming

A baseball player must play defense with the alert expectation that the ball will be hit to him. If an infielder’s hands are not low, with his knees flexed and weight on the balls of his feet, he will let many balls get past him. The wise coach demands alertness from his players. Jesus has always demanded alertness on His team. The ancient Jewish nation was no exception, as Matthew 24 contains several teachings by Jesus about the future.
Stay Ready
Jesus prepared His disciples for the suffering and persecution that was coming. He gives them a reason to maintain hope when the circumstances become tough. Jesus’ words in this chapter are not meant to scare true believers. His words are good news for those who know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Instead, these warnings are directed at those who don’t believe in Christ and risk entering eternal judgment.
Being alert and understanding the teachings in Matthew 24 isn’t easy, but it is crucial. Jesus will return, and we must serve Him faithfully until His return. Since God is completely sovereign, we can be sure that nothing happens outside His plan.
The Kingdom Coach and Athlete rely on God’s Word whenever they are uncertain of the future. No matter how negative the news reports become, they turn to the Word of God for comfort (Psalm 119:105).
