WE TRAIN COACHES AND ATHLETES TO COMPETE BIBLICALLY

Hope That Overcomes

Many coaches throughout history have given inspiring talks to their teams, but one that stands out is the “Miracle on Ice” speech by Herb Brooks. Brooks was the coach of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team, and before their game against the heavily favored Soviet Union, he delivered a powerful speech that instilled great hope in his players. He said, “Great moments are born from great opportunity. And that’s what you have here tonight, boys. That’s what you’ve earned here tonight. One game. If we played ’em ten times, they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight. Tonight, we skate with them. Tonight, we stay with them. And we shut them down because we can. Tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world.” This speech not only motivated the team, but it also became a symbol of hope and inspiration for the entire nation.

Ultimate Outcome – 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

Imagine the Bible with no prophecies in it. How would that make you feel if we had no information about the second coming or the ultimate victory over evil? If you’re like me, you would wonder what the future holds. That is a significant reason God filled the Bible with so many prophecies about what is to come: to give us hope. What we know about the future helps to influence our thoughts and actions in the present. These words from the Apostle Paul should encourage athletes and coaches to play for His glory.

“The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command…Then we…will be caught up…in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air…Therefore encourage one another with these words.“ (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18).

We can live with anticipation rather than fear because we know the outcome of the battle now being waged on earth. Bible prophecy helps us to have an eternal focus—it reminds us that no matter how bad things get, good and righteousness will win. Victory is certain.

The Kingdom Coach and Athlete let their hope in a glorious future influence their thoughts, resulting in courageous actions.

Bible Memory Verse

This blog includes a Scripture memory verse. There are many methods for memorizing the Bible, but I have found that using a pack of index or blank business cards works best for me. If you write the verse on a card, you can pull it out during the day and meditate or recite it.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
