Moe Berg played in the major leagues for 15 years and was known as “the strangest man ever to play baseball.” He was also known as the brainiest guy in baseball. Berg graduated from Princeton University and Columbia Law School. He appeared on many radio quiz shows, where he could answer nearly any question.

While Moe Berg’s baseball career was unremarkable, his service to the country earned him the Medal of Freedom. During World War II, he served as a spy and helped the Allies beat Nazi Germany in the race to build the first atomic bomb. The film The Catcher and the Spy is based on his life; other documentaries and books tell his heroic story.

Jude – Defending Truth

In Jude’s day, a battle was raging, not waged with weapons of this world but as spiritual warfare that began with another spy named Judas Iscariot (Matthew 26:47). He was among the traitorous defectors who “went out from us, but . . . were not really of us” (1 John 2:19). This battle was against apostasy, meaning those who left the truth in doctrine and started cults or false religions. Apostates are those who willfully and deliberately defect from the faith. They reject true theology and embrace heresy or false teaching.

Jude’s letter primarily aimed to expose these false teachers and to encourage Christians to stand firm in the faith. These false teachers rejected moral standards and undermined the doctrine taught in the Bible. Every believer needs to contend for the faith by being mentally prepared with the right answers and attitude.
