The Santa Clause Game

I sincerely hope you find these Bible study blogs helpful in your spiritual growth. From my family to yours—Merry Christmas!

The Philadelphia Eagles Santa Claus incident, also known as The Santa Claus Game, occurred during a football game in the 1968 NFL season. On December 15, 1968, during halftime, the struggling Eagles, with a record of 2-11, brought out Santa Claus as part of a Christmas parade. However, disappointed fans threw snowballs at him. This incident has become a symbol of Philadelphia sports fans’ passion and sometimes extreme behavior.

The incident with Philadelphia fans lacking Christmas spirit reminds us to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. It is a time to recognize Jesus as the King above all kings and honor Him. The Christmas spirit is about giving, as exemplified by the greatest gift of Jesus. It is also about treating others with patience, love, and kindness, reflecting the fruit of the Spirit. The essence of the Christmas spirit is the gift of kindness.

Spreading the Christmas Spirit – Luke 2:11

While the significance of Christmas is that a Savior, the Messiah, was born, we should never forget we are to live in obedience to such a king. Having the Christmas spirit means being patient and treating others well, not just during the holiday season but throughout the year. Rude and selfish behavior goes against the example set by Jesus. The Spirit of Christ is about loving others as we want to be loved. Kindness is the essence of the Christmas spirit, as it reflects the fruit of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23.

The Kingdom Coach and Athlete celebrates the greatest gift of Jesus and treats others with kindness during the holidays.
