WE TRAIN COACHES AND ATHLETES TO COMPETE BIBLICALLY

Coming Along Side

When former NFL coach Tony Dungy heard about Michael Vick’s involvement in dogfighting, he did something that surprised almost everyone. While many fans and friends no longer wanted anything to do with Vick, Dungy saw an opportunity to help him.

Dungy had heard Vick grew up in a devout Christian household but had stopped relying on his faith when he became a star in the NFL. “Somewhere in the course of it all, he realized he had left the spiritual side and described to me the fact that he needed to get back closer to the Lord,” said Dungy.

Through his mentorship, Vick was able to return to his NFL career in 2010. During a news conference, Vick thanked Dungy for his support, saying that his mentoring “helped redefine me as an individual.” Vick also expressed gratitude to Dungy for “giving me the proper advice and having an open dialogue with me at all times.”

Galatians 6 – He Ain’t Heavy

Dungy did what Paul taught in Galatians 6:2, “Bear one another’s burdens.” As part of the family of God, we are to come to the aid of our brothers and sisters in need. When a load suddenly becomes too heavy for one person, we are to bear one another’s burdens.

The Kingdom Coach and Athlete add strength and encouragement to their team by helping them press on and not give up when facing difficult trials and circumstances.

Bible Memory Verse But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, [and] self-control. Galatians 5:22-23a (LSB)
