God Keeps Promises
The Last Dance documentary tells not only the story of the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls basketball season but also all the relationships surrounding the organization, including former Bulls general manager Jerry Krause’s promise to overhaul the team. While the film highlights the final season with Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan, it often flashbacks to Jordan’s earlier years with the team.
The film also shows the team’s future when Krause begins his plans to rebuild it. In just one year after the 1998 championship season, they went from being the best team in the NBA to one of the worst in NBA history. Krause’s future decisions proved fatal. He eventually resigned as general manager in 2003 after trading away promising talent for what he thought would be the next star.
Romans 11 – 100% Faithful
Paul tells the story of Israel’s relationship with God in much the same way as the filmmaker of The Last Dance. In Romans 9, he explains their relationship in the past, with chapter 10 showing the current state. When he moves into chapter 11, he taught the future hope that God’s plan was to save both Jews and Gentiles. Paul wanted to make sure his readers understood God never rejected Israel. While they might have rejected Him, the offer of salvation always remained for the Israelites.
Paul provides his proof that God is not through with Israel. No matter how far Israel might turn from God’s truth, the roots are still good (11:16-24). God keeps His promises, notwithstanding human failing. Jesus is only 100% faithful; only those “in Christ” will persevere.
The Kingdom Coach and Athlete believe God has not forgotten nor forsaken His covenant people. They are confident He can be relied upon to fulfill His promises in the future.
