WE TRAIN COACHES AND ATHLETES TO COMPETE BIBLICALLY

Hidden Blessings

Former Husker coach Frank Solich was fired after a 9-3 regular season in 2003. Their loss to Kansas State on November 15 cost them a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game that year. Despite winning the season-finale against Colorado, he was fired before getting a chance to coach in the Alamo Bowl.

Frank Solich’s tenure at Nebraska was a success by all metrics. His overall record at the time of his firing was 58-19. He won more games in his first six seasons than his predecessors, Bob Devaney and Tom Osborne, who are College Hall of Fame members. Solich never had a losing season, won a Big 12 title in 1999, and had three finishes in the top ten. The Huskers have not won a conference title or had a top-ten finish since. He was later hired by Ohio, where he turned the Bobcats into one of the country’s most consistent Group of Five schools. Solich took over at Ohio in 2005 and has put together a 115-82 record with eleven bowl appearances.

Genesis 29-30 – God Will Honor Those Who Honor Him!

God can bless Frank Solich or whomever He wants with prosperity. He can even bless hired workers like Jacob in Genesis 30:43. He worked for a scheming, dishonest boss. When Jacob desired to return to his homeland in Canaan, Laban deceived him into staying, for he knew (by pagan divination) that the Lord was blessing him because of Jacob! Crafty uncle Laban didn’t intend to let Jacob leave with anything, so he tried to trick him, but it backfired on Laban. Are you faithful to your boss, even if he is as deceitful as Laban? God wants us to be dependable workers. He can bless us in every circumstance, and He will honor those who honor Him!

The Kingdom Coach and Athlete honor the Lord with their athletic careers by glorying Him in all they do, “… but now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed’” (1 Samuel 2:30).

Bible Memory Verse – “Then Jacob made a vow, saying, ‘If God will be with me and will keep me on this journey on which I am going, and will give me food to eat and garments to wear, and I return to my father’s house in peace, then Yahweh will be my God.’” Genesis 28:20-21 (LSB)
