Making Excuses
During preparation for a home game, Dan Meers, who is the KC Wolf mascot with the Kansas City Chiefs, practiced a stunt that involved him bungee jumping out of Arrowhead Stadium’s lights, dropping 20 feet, and being carried over the field by a zip line. Instead, Meers fell 75 feet, crashing into the stadium’s upper deck, breaking seven ribs, collapsing his lung, fracturing his tailbone, and breaking his vertebra.
Meers eventually recovered and resumed his work as the Chiefs’ Hall of Fame mascot. “You can learn so many valuable lessons when you’re going through difficult times in life. I meet people all the time who are going through painful times. Everybody experiences pain. Mine was more physical pain, but for others, it’s emotional or relationship pain. Everybody goes through difficult times. Hopefully, I use my story to try to encourage people. I still wake up with pain almost every morning. It’s no fun, but I can choose to rise and shine or rise and whine. I don’t want to be a whiner. I want to make a difference.” Today, he shares his faith and miraculous recovery with thousands of sports fans throughout the country.
Exodus 4-5 – Hesitation and Excuses
God had big plans for Moses, but he was not convinced He had selected the right man for the job. When God asked him, Moses hesitated and made excuses. Finally, God gave him three signs and promised to send his brother Aaron to assist him. The Israelites worshipped God and thanked Him for hearing their prayers.
The Kingdom Coach and Athlete refuse to make excuses when faced with a challenge or setbacks. They use their experiences to encourage others and share their faith in Christ.
Bible Memory Verse – “But, indeed, for this reason I have caused you to stand, in order to show you My power and in order to recount My name through all the earth.” Exodus 9:16 (LSB)
