Man Vs. God—Again
Sometimes, mankind repeats its errors, and things go from bad to worse. In 1932, a ball skipped through the legs of White Sox outfielder Smead Jolly, and he was charged with an error. The ball hit the wall and ricocheted back through his legs for error #2! Finally, Smead picked up the ball and threw it over the third baseman’s head for error #3 as the runner circled the bases. Fortunately, he was only charged with two official errors!
Genesis 11-12 – The Promise
Man repeated his errors against God in Genesis 11, another historical pivot point. Human beings continued their rebellion against a holy God, even though it was only 100 years since the flood. Man’s rebellious behavior caused the Lord to intervene again in the affairs of the earth by scattering the nations.
God created man to glorify Him, but humanity’s repeated sin to glorify themselves led to judgment. Despite man’s continued sin, God provided a covenant through a promise to Abram in Genesis 12—a promise to bless all the people of the earth through Himself. That promise was fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who descended from the line of Abram. This promise gave all people access to the grace and redemption of God.
The Kingdom Coach and Athlete recognize God is at work in His world and is accomplishing His purposes regardless of the plans and projects of sinful people (Proverbs 19:21).
