Predictions
When it comes to sports and making predictions about scores, teams, seasons, and athletes, it might be wise to keep them to yourself. Which predictions missed the mark by a mile? How about these?
Bobby Riggs will beat Billie Jean King in tennis. During the 1970s, an older male tennis player claimed he could beat one of the best female professional tennis players and failed.
Eric Lindros is the can’t-miss hockey prospect. In 1991, the Seattle Times said, “Lindros is hockey’s Can’t-Miss Kid, the best prospect since Mario Lemieux in 1984. If Wayne Gretzky is The Great One, Eric Lindros is The Next One.” I remember my friend telling me to load up on the 17-year-old trading card because it would pay for my retirement. I’m glad I didn’t plan on that, as he became one of hockey’s biggest busts of all time.
Todd Marinovich will be the greatest quarterback in the NFL. Many newspapers claimed Marinovich was the can’t-miss prospect because of his father’s extreme training. His rise and fall were documented in the 30 for 30 film, The Marinovich Project.
Revelation 1 – Laying Groundwork
Josh Billings said, “For if you prophesy wrong, nobody will forget it, and if you prophesy right, nobody will remember it.” Predictions or prophecies have come and gone in sports and history. The Book of Revelation is the final book of the Bible that provides a glimpse of the end days when Jesus will return. In Revelation 1, John introduces his book and lays the groundwork for understanding the most captivating mystery in the Bible.
Revelation is God’s plans and purposes for His church. John’s prophecy is primarily the revelation of Jesus Christ, not the revelation of future events. It’s best to understand this book as a way to get to know the Savior better.
The Kingdom Coach and Athlete believe Jesus deserves their worship because of God’s great lengths to establish a relationship with them, beginning in Genesis and concluding in Revelation.
