“The Man”
Stan Musial was one of the greatest hitters of all time. During his stellar Major League career with the St. Louis Cardinals, Musial earned the nickname “The Man.” In a 1954 doubleheader, Stan “The Man” Musial became the first Major Leaguer to hit five home runs in one day! Musial was not just an amazing baseball player. Everyone admired him. “One thing I have to say,” said Bill Virdon, whose arrival as a Rookie of the Year center fielder moved Musial to first base. “He is one of the best people I’ve ever known. He is kind, generous … you could not meet a better person in this world than Stan Musial.”
Genesis 42-43 – Joseph is a Picture of the Lord Jesus Christ
Joseph was “The Man” in Egypt (Genesis 43:13), sent there by God to save Israel during the seven-year famine. Jacob didn’t recognize God’s sovereign work behind the scenes. Still, the Lord used the threat of starvation to get the family out of the paganism of Canaan for the next 400 years! Jacob (Israel) had to learn to trust God before the nation could reveal Him to the Word! “The Man” was the key to their salvation.
“The Man” often wept during the process of revealing himself. He had a heart of love toward those who had hated and rejected him. More than any other man, Joseph is a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ, who loved us before we even knew Him! “The Man” had been the object of scorn, but no one was laughing now.
The Kingdom Coach and Athlete deal with others in a patient, loving, and wise way when facing conflict. They realize anything short of humble repentance and confession will not bring about reconciliation with God or with one another. “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death” (Proverbs 14:12).
