WE TRAIN COACHES AND ATHLETES TO COMPETE BIBLICALLY

Tough Choice

National Signing Day is the biggest off-the-field day for many college football programs. Some top athletes have been recruited by dozens of schools with multiple visits and pressure from family, friends, and schools to pick their favorite team. Recruiting is a long ordeal for these kids, and often, they flip their commitments to different schools at the last moment, which adds to the drama.

Hebrews 3 – Choose Wisely

Spiritually, like the early Hebrew believers, each of us has a decision to make: Moses or Messiah? That’s the point in chapter Hebrews 3. You’d think it would be much easier than choosing a college football team, especially since the Messiah is God in the flesh and the Savior of sinners—including Moses. Yet many believers today will trade the grace of Jesus Christ for the law of Moses. Some think obeying the Ten Commandments will keep them in good standing with God. Whether it’s a “dos and don’ts” list or unwritten rules, it falls far short of God’s new covenant of grace that fulfilled the old covenant.

The conflict between “grace” and “law” happens when a Christian misunderstands the Law’s purpose. Some wrongly think grace is something other than “God’s benevolence on the undeserving” (Romans 11:6). Others try to earn their salvation or “supplement” Christ’s sacrifice.

The Kingdom Coach and Athlete study the Scripture to show themselves approved by God (2 Timothy 2:15) and discover the majesty of a grace that produces good works.

Bible Memory Verse “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12  (LSB)
