Words convey specific meanings. Old-time baseball writers often used colorful words to describe the game. Many of these words are no longer in use. Fans were once called “pluggers,” a bad play was a “foozle,” and a fly ball was a “skyscraper.” The dugout was the “dog kennel,” and a curve ball was a “mackerel.” We’ve lost some of the game’s color by the loss of such descriptive words.

Genesis 15 – Future Revealed

God has given man the ability to understand words to communicate His will. Therefore, man can respond with obedience and praise. Genesis 15 is the story of God’s plan displayed in a vision with one word. That word is “covenant.” It means a “solemn binding agreement.” Abram watched as the vision lasted all day and into the night. The vision traversed down through the centuries to the Lord Jesus Christ, who called Himself “I Am” (John 8:56-58).

God promised to make Abram into a great nation. However, he and his wife remained childless for years while waiting on Him to fulfill His promise. Genesis 15:6 says that despite the years of waiting, Abram’s belief in God put him in a right relationship with God. Today, when we believe in the gospel—the death and resurrection of Jesus for our salvation, God considers us righteous, too.
