Making Excuses

During preparation for a home game, Dan Meers, the KC Wolf mascot for the Kansas City Chiefs, practiced a stunt in which he bungee-jumped from Arrowhead Stadium’s lights, dropped 20 feet, and was carried over the field on a zip line. Instead, Meers fell 75 feet, crashing into the stadium’s upper deck and suffering seven broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a fractured tailbone, and a broken vertebra.
Meers eventually recovered and resumed his role as the Chiefs’ Hall of Fame mascot. “You can learn so many valuable lessons when you’re going through difficult times in life. I meet people all the time who are going through painful times. Everybody experiences pain. Mine was more physical, but for others, it’s emotional or relationship pain. Everybody goes through difficult times. I hope my story encourages people. I still wake up with pain almost every morning. It’s no fun, but I can choose to rise and shine or rise and whine. I don’t want to be a whiner. I want to make a difference.” Today, he shares his faith and miraculous recovery with thousands of sports fans across the country.
Exodus 4-5 – Choose Courage
God had big plans for Moses, but Moses wasn’t convinced God had chosen the right man for the job. When God asked him, Moses hesitated and made excuses. Finally, God gave him three signs and promised to send his brother Aaron to assist him. The Israelites worshipped God and thanked Him for hearing their prayers.
The Kingdom Coach and Athlete refuse to make excuses when faced with a challenge or setbacks. They use their experiences to encourage others and share their faith in Christ.
Bible Verse: “But, indeed, for this reason I have caused you to stand, in order to show you My power and in order to recount My name through all the earth.” Exodus 9:16 (LSB)
