WE TRAIN COACHES AND ATHLETES TO COMPETE BIBLICALLY

Man vs God—Again

Sometimes, mankind repeats its errors, and things go from bad to worse. In 1932, a ball skipped through the legs of White Sox outfielder Smead Jolly, and he was charged with an error. The ball hit the wall and ricocheted back through his legs for error number two! Finally, Smead picked up the ball and threw it over the third baseman’s head, resulting in error number three as the runner circled the bases. Fortunately, he was charged with only two official errors!

Genesis 11-12 – The Promise

Man repeated his errors against God in Genesis 11, another historical turning point. Human beings continued their rebellion against a holy God, even though only a few generations had passed since the flood. Instead of spreading across the earth as God had commanded, they united in pride to build the Tower of Babel and make a name for themselves. Their rebellion prompted the Lord to intervene once again, confusing their language and scattering the nations.

Yet the story does not end with judgment. Immediately after mankind’s rebellion, God took the initiative to reveal His plan of redemption. In Genesis 12, He called Abram and established a covenant, promising to make him a great nation and to bless all the families of the earth through him. God’s answer to human pride was not to abandon humanity but to begin unfolding His plan of salvation.

That promise found fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the descendant of Abraham, through whom salvation is offered to every nation, tribe, and people. Although mankind repeatedly fails, God remains faithful to His promises. The story of Scripture is ultimately not about man’s rebellion but about God’s unwavering commitment to accomplish His redemptive plan. His grace is always greater than our failures.

The Kingdom Coach and Athlete recognize that God is at work in His world, accomplishing His purposes regardless of the plans and projects of sinful people (Proverbs 19:21).
