Opening Day

A professional baseball player doesn’t just appear on the field out of nowhere; his career begins with the first catch. Every championship team has a first practice. Every successful coach starts with a first lesson. Everything in life has a beginning, and so does the Bible. Genesis is the book of beginnings, laying the foundation for all that follows in Scripture.
Opening day is a thrilling time for athletes and coaches in any sport. The preparation, anticipation, and fresh start spark excitement in every competitor. There is a sense that anything is possible. We should approach the opening chapters of Genesis with the same excitement because they introduce us to the God who created all things and reveal His purpose for our lives.
Genesis 1-2 – Divine Design
Genesis 1 and 2 lay the foundation for a biblical worldview by answering life’s most important questions: Where did we come from? Why are we here? Who is God? Humanity is the masterpiece of creation. Men and women were created in God’s image, uniquely designed to know Him, reflect His character, and exercise wise stewardship over His creation. Before sin entered the world, mankind enjoyed perfect fellowship with God and lived in the goodness He declared over His creation.
Genesis is essential to understanding God’s redemptive plan. If we miss the beginning, we will struggle to grasp the rest of the Bible. As you begin this journey through the Old Testament, remember that the Creator who spoke the universe into existence is the same God who desires a relationship with you today.
The Kingdom Coach & Athlete believe they compete in a world created by God and that they were made in His image. They understand they have enjoyed many blessings from the hand of God.
Bible Verse: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 (LSB)

Our featured book this week is The Handbook on Athletic Perfection (A Training Manual for Christian Athletes) by Wes Neal. The Handbook on Athletic Perfection teaches how to have the right attitudes and behavior in competition to glorify God in sports. Wes Neal introduced his systematic approach based on his study of the Bible in 1974, which revolutionized how athletes and coaches competed. Now, 50 years later, this playbook for doing sports God’s way has been updated for the next generation!
