The Win

“The Jets will win Sunday. I guarantee it.” Those were Joe Namath’s words in 1969, just a few days before his underdog New York Jets played the Baltimore Colts in the Super Bowl.
For most of the sportswriters interviewing Namath, his promise of victory wasn’t just cocky—it seemed impossible. The Colts were 18-point favorites and had the league’s best offense and defense. Many reporters predicted a blowout for Baltimore. Instead, Namath backed up his bold guarantee as the Jets shocked the football world with a 16–7 victory, producing one of the greatest upsets in sports history.
Revelation 12 – Dragon Defeated
John’s vision continued in Revelation 12, where the battle between God and Satan reaches its climax. Joe Namath’s promise of victory might seem impressive in light of sports history, but nothing compares to God’s promise of certain victory for His people. His guarantee is not based on confidence or wishful thinking but on His sovereign power and unchanging purposes.
In chapter 12, John introduces the main characters in the final battles of the long war against God: the woman (Israel), the dragon (Satan), and the male child (Jesus Christ). Although Satan continues to oppose God’s plan, his defeat is already certain because Jesus Christ conquered sin, death, and Satan through His death and resurrection. The enemy is still active, but he is a defeated foe whose final judgment is assured.
The Kingdom Coach and Athlete face opposition, temptation, and spiritual battles just like every believer. Yet they compete with confidence because they know the outcome has already been determined. God’s promise of victory gives them courage to persevere, remain faithful, and continue serving Christ, knowing that the Lord Jesus Christ will win.
